I won't stop eating meat, and I'm not asking people to live like stone age.
But we should not treat animals bad, cruel or mean. Imagine if there is a monster take your skin alive, after that it left you quiver on the floor painfully and then show off your skinn to others. Actually, this is what had done by those wear fur. And we should also not to abuse violent on animals. We gain nothing from this.

Anybody here remember what is 4Rs?
1 of the Rs is Replace. Fur is not a must to us. Why don't we take another choice? When you know the bloody truth behind every fur, you will agree with me.

Animal researchs are important and I am not against it. It had saved lives that we can't count on. But, at the same time, give at least of pain to the animals as we can. Kill it fast or let it suffer from pain is a big difference.

Just to clairfy, maybe, and apologies if I've overlooked someone already mentioning this, but there was a question about the difference between the leather and fur industries...

As I understand it, furriers want to strip the pelt intact, which means that they avoid killing the animal in any way that might mar the fur. I don't know how true or widespread this is, but one of the horror stories is that some furriers kill (or stun) the animals by genital electrocution, which does no damage to the body or head.

Again, I don't know how common that it, but I have no reason not to believe it. It seems that every industry has unthinkable horrors being driven by the bottom line.

I'm definitely not for torturing and killing animals in such a barbaric way but I have to tell you, I just made me some steak'ems....and they were really good.

hey, i haven't posted here for ages

here's another interview for peta:

Quote:
Shirley Manson’s ‘Fur Is Garbage’ Giveaway
Image

Over the years, we’ve had the privilege of working with a number of super-strong, no-nonsense women, and we’re thrilled to add Shirley Manson to that list. The feisty and fiercely sexy Garbage frontwoman agreed to step in front of the camera to show you what the fashion industry doesn’t want you to see: the bloody, lifeless bodies of its latest victims. Holding a skinned “fox,” Shirley tells fur-wearers, “Here’s the rest of your fur coat,” in peta2’s latest anti-fur public service announcement (PSA).

What prompted you to decide to do this PSA for PETA? Was there a particular incident that made you become anti-fur, or were you always anti-fur?
No, I haven’t always been anti-fur per se, in that I haven’t necessarily formulated my own beliefs, but as I have gotten older, I feel like I’ve become more political, I feel like I’ve become more conscious, and I believe very strongly in the ethical treatment of animals. And I think when PETA approached me about this particular campaign, I was really honored to be asked and I felt like I had a chance to add my voice to the dissent against the way animals can be treated all over the world by all persons, groups of people.

What would you say to someone who was wearing fur, who may not care about how it was made?
I think for me the idea of speaking what I believe in is not necessarily to change the minds of other people but to speak to those people who have that seed of empathy for animals in them, and therefore you are speaking to them and saying, “Do you want to, like, join us here?” The more people who join the movement, the easier to facilitate change.

A lot of my own fans have educated me on this kind of thing. A lot of my fans are very pro-animal rights and often, when I have been wearing fake fur, have said, “Is that real?” and really gotten upset, and I have had to reassure them, “No, it’s cool. It’s fake, don’t worry.” They have made me very conscious of it, and I am really grateful that they have made me pay attention.

Tell us something about yourself that your fans would be surprised to know.
Oh, my God—there are so many things. Where do you start? Lately I have been spending a lot of time around garden centers. I think people may be somewhat surprised by that. It’s not so much that I am into gardening as yet, but it’s certainly something that I am beginning to get interested in. Mostly because I just recently bought a house that has a garden and I want beautiful blooms in it, so I have become, “I want camellias. I want roses. I want hibiscus.” All of a sudden, all these flowers that I loved to buy at flower shops and cut and put into vases, and now I can grow them! Because I am such a frugal Scot, of course—why spend money on them when you can grow them yourself?

What is on the horizon for you career-wise?
I am just about to start recording my first-ever solo record. My band is on hiatus right now. One of my band is going back into production, another’s just had a baby, another is doing film soundtracks, so we are taking a break and I am going to start recording. I will be doing it all over—there are fabulous musicians in all corners of the world.

Who are your musical heroes or inspirations?
Oh, there are so many. The first name that comes to mind, strangely enough, is Chrissie Hynde from The Pretenders. I know she is a huge animal rights advocate. I have always found her really inspiring. I have met her; I have sung with her onstage. She knows I am a slavish fan. I find her very inspiring, and I love Patti Smith, Siouxsie Sioux, Debbie Harry—all the great female icons had a big impact on me as I was growing up.

Is there anything you would say to your fans about getting active to help animals?
I think you do your best to state how you feel. And you lead by example. And that, hopefully, in turn will inspire someone else to say, “You know what? I want to add my voice to this” or “I want to do something like that.”

Shirley love, please stick to singing and keep the propaganda for animal rights extremists to yourself.

As far as I'm concerned, animal rights groups are little more than low grade terrorists. They're not above digging up people's bodies, firebombing homes, intimidation campaigns, trying to stop kids drinking milk, etc etc.

Yes, because PETA is entirely neutral and objective, and won't show you the worst stuff they can find.

I think in many stances PETA is way over the top.

BUT Shirley didn't say she backs every single thing PETA does. She just backs it on this stanz and I find it admirable.

Even if you dont agree with her it is admirable that she stands up for her beliefs and isn't afraid to.

PLUS she credits some of her fans for opening her eyes to the issue, which as a fan, I am very pleased to know that she takes us so seriously.

Go Shirl!!!

Interesting point. I don't back every single thing Al Queda stands for, but I admire people for having religious faith. Maybe I will do an ad for them. It makes just as much sense.

Sure, I admire her for standing up for her beliefs. I just think she is an idiot for supporting PETA, and organization that would rather see babies die than harm lab rats (their own words). I also think she is a total hypocrite for doing all her AIDS charity work and then goes and supports a group that is 100% against using animals for this research, which we all know is an important part of the process.

Will I stop listening to her music? No. Will I take her photo off my computer wall paper? No. Will I stop having naughty thoughts of her in the middle of the night? NO!!! But I can help but wonder what went through her head to support such a group. Did she even educate herself about what they stand for? Why not just do an anti-fur ad that does not involve a people hating group like PETA. It is like saying she did an ad for the KKK because she likes white people, but is against the Klan's racist positions. I wonder if she keeps little PETA refrigerator magnets on her fridge next to her anti-AIDS magnets.

THE DOC

making sissies cry since '69

I really just dont quite think that is a fair asessment. Many people can consider themselves Democrat but don't support EVERY single stand the Democrats take. I know democrats who are pro-life, but they support the other issues so they still call themselves democrats.

The interview clearly states that the issue she supports is anti-fur. She doesn't say that she is the new head of PETA or anything.

If she wants to get the message out there it only makes sense to use an organization that has the means to do it.

I think a lot of things PETA does are insane, but I HIGHLY doubt Shirley supports killing babies before animals.

She has a message and she wants to get it out there. Shirley cant do it alone.

I don't think she is a hypocrite, I think she is doing what it takes to get her message across. And a simple ad isnt the same as killing a baby....

Exactly!! As far as I know Shirley isn't even vegetarian and all the hardcore PETA supporters appear to be vegan, which just shows that just because you support one aspect of what a group stands for doesnt mean you automatically buy into their whole ethos. I don't think she is a hypocrite, she is against killing animals for their fur so why not stand up and campaign about it?! Since when were people not allowed to have differing opinions? Yes some people in PETA are probably complete mentalists but being against fur doesnt make you one of them.

I hate the way anyone remotely famous that supports any kind of charity/action group/medical research has their motives immediatly questioned and are said to be "jumping on the bandwagon".

Tastes like chicken!

PETA - People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. Every person has their own view of what is ethical treatment of the critters. Killing an something for only one outdated purpose seems unethical to me. Still, we have wars.
