You could start an action group against protesting.

As for dr. bhead - I agree, PETA is out there and the woman who runs it is NUTS. I've known a couple of people who've worked there and they were (ironically?) treated very poorly.

But we live in a post modern world where nothing is black and white and there is no way to not be a hypocrite. Whenever I start getting wound up about something I remind myself that I pay taxes to the US Government, and what could be worse that what's being done with that $$$?

Still, in this culture fur is purely ornamental and still used as an obnoxious status symbol and so has no reasonable justification for the industry that creates it (in my mind anyway.) Even if the methods used by PETA are manipulative and extreme, I think it serves a good cause. I mean, who does this ad actually harm? (OK, ok, I'll watch the video.)

Also, Manson has always had a foot solidly in the punk movement which has a history of endorsing passionate outrage over rational behavior. Maybe this is her 40's version of crapping in her boyfriend's cornflakes. God, I love her.

As much as I like Shirley, admire her work, think she is gorgeous; she and her Hollywood elite friends are hypocrites. How many AIDS fund raisers has she participated in? How many cancer awareness programs has she been in? And yet PETA’s official position is NO animals are to be used on ANY medical testing. Zero! Nada! (Unless you are the vice prez of PETA who is a type 1 diabetic and depends on it for HER life).

I agree. Many celebrities tend to find the latest and hottest causes to support without doing their homework.

With all the effort Shirley has put into fighting AIDS I wonder how she feels about the following statement of the president and co-founder of PETA:

"Even if animal research resulted in a cure for AIDS, we'd be against it." — Ingrid Newkirk, President and Co-Founder of PETA

I think in many stances PETA is way over the top.

BUT Shirley didn't say she backs every single thing PETA does. She just backs it on this stanz and I find it admirable.

Even if you dont agree with her it is admirable that she stands up for her beliefs and isn't afraid to.

PLUS she credits some of her fans for opening her eyes to the issue, which as a fan, I am very pleased to know that she takes us so seriously.

Go Shirl!!!

Yeah, that dead animal thing is a big turn off. Somebody do some more airbrushing and get rid of it!

Interesting point. I don't back every single thing Al Queda stands for, but I admire people for having religious faith. Maybe I will do an ad for them. It makes just as much sense.

Sure, I admire her for standing up for her beliefs. I just think she is an idiot for supporting PETA, and organization that would rather see babies die than harm lab rats (their own words). I also think she is a total hypocrite for doing all her AIDS charity work and then goes and supports a group that is 100% against using animals for this research, which we all know is an important part of the process.

Will I stop listening to her music? No. Will I take her photo off my computer wall paper? No. Will I stop having naughty thoughts of her in the middle of the night? NO!!! But I can help but wonder what went through her head to support such a group. Did she even educate herself about what they stand for? Why not just do an anti-fur ad that does not involve a people hating group like PETA. It is like saying she did an ad for the KKK because she likes white people, but is against the Klan's racist positions. I wonder if she keeps little PETA refrigerator magnets on her fridge next to her anti-AIDS magnets.

PETA: People Eating Tasty Animals

But seriously, as much as I don't really like PETA, Shirl being with them is the only cool thing about them

well i think that she may not know about the aids thing, i see shirley as a very assertive and mature person, that banner is mainly focusing on the fur of the animals, which is something that i think should stop, and concerning animal testing im in favor.

I really just dont quite think that is a fair asessment. Many people can consider themselves Democrat but don't support EVERY single stand the Democrats take. I know democrats who are pro-life, but they support the other issues so they still call themselves democrats.

The interview clearly states that the issue she supports is anti-fur. She doesn't say that she is the new head of PETA or anything.

If she wants to get the message out there it only makes sense to use an organization that has the means to do it.

I think a lot of things PETA does are insane, but I HIGHLY doubt Shirley supports killing babies before animals.

She has a message and she wants to get it out there. Shirley cant do it alone.

I don't think she is a hypocrite, I think she is doing what it takes to get her message across. And a simple ad isnt the same as killing a baby....

I like Honey Hickory or Spicy Honey BBQ sauce myself. Don't think I've ever ate fox before, however.

the idea of peta is good, and maybe necessary.
the people who run the organization are fucking jackass hypocrites who allowed the PETA branding to become synonymous with extremist psychos who who would rather firebomb a school searching for a cure for cancer then help find alternative methods to do the same research.
Its a little disappointing to see Shirley Manson associating herself with these sick fucks. Although, it is her right and ill respect that. She's not exactly a role model for me so it doesn't make a difference in the grand scheme of things.
